Emergency Call-Outs
Hidden leaks under floors and behind panelling traced methodically, so the repair stops the source rather than drying out the symptom.
A burst behind a kitchen unit or in a shop's back room floods fast. We get the water stopped, replace the damaged section properly, and get the rest of the house or shop back on supply the same visit.
Some taps dry, or all of them. We establish exactly where the water stops, restore everything that can safely run, and tell you plainly if the problem sits with the supplier's main rather than your pipework.
A drain that is slow, smells or has started backing up has already told you it is blocking. Stop running water into it, and we will clear the run, find the cause and tell you if roots or a broken pipe are behind it.
Plenty of Chichester's shops, offices and guest rooms share one or two toilets that simply cannot be out of action. We clear blocked pans and soil pipes, repair failed cisterns and flush valves, then test before we leave.
Renovation drilling, a dripping outside tap, a valve that will not shut under the sink: small leaks keep doing damage until they are properly repaired. We replace the washer, cartridge or valve correctly and check the joints around it.
Who We Are
When a plumbing problem needs urgent attention in Chichester, our emergency service is available around the clock. We'll establish what's happening when you call and can provide immediate instructions where necessary, such as turning off the stopcock or isolating a leaking appliance.
Our plumbers test every repair before they leave. If the visit uncovers another problem that needs attention, we'll explain the findings and agree the next step before carrying out additional work.
Common Call-Outs
Most of the calls we receive concern the problems set out below. If your situation is not covered here, we are still happy to advise over the telephone.
Find the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, and turn it clockwise to shut off the water. Then open the cold taps to drain the pipes, and switch off the boiler or immersion heater if hot water is escaping.
Where water has reached electrics, keep well away from sockets and switch off at the fuse box only if it is safe to do so. Move valuables, put down towels and buckets, and never stand under a ceiling that is sagging with water.
If you smell gas, get everyone out and ring the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 before telephoning us.

Leak Detection
In a Georgian townhouse inside the city walls, water can run along a joist for metres before it shows on a ceiling. We trace the leak back to its source with moisture readings and careful lifting, so the repair fixes what is actually leaking rather than guessing at it.

Describe the problem to us. Calls are taken by a plumber, including overnight, at weekends and on bank holidays.
The rate for attending and a realistic arrival window are both confirmed before anyone leaves for the property.
The water is isolated safely first, then the system is checked until the cause has been properly established.
The majority of leaks and blockages are put right on the first visit, and anything unfinished is isolated and left watertight.
Send a picture of the leak, the stopcock or the overflowing drain when you call, and the plumber arrives carrying the right parts.
CALL 01273 086899No Water, No Pressure
Turning the water back on with the leak still there only floods the same spot again. The pattern behind it is the useful part, and it usually points somewhere specific.
No Water Explained → 01273 086899Nothing from any tap sits above every valve you own. Ask a neighbour first, because a dry street makes it the supplier's matter. Their main stops at your boundary; the supply pipe, the stopcock and everything after them are ours to check.
Rooms do not lose pressure, pipes do. In older city houses a narrow lead supply or a stopcock left half shut after building work is the usual reason. We measure pressure and flow at the stopcock and work outwards until the restriction shows itself.
Working taps elsewhere prove the supply is fine. With the rest of the house running, the interruption sits on that branch: a closed isolation valve, a seized cartridge or debris that lodged after the water was last turned off.
Hot water failures are awkward because the cause can sit in the cylinder, the tank in the loft or the boiler. We check the feed tank, the cylinder and the immersion heater, handle the plumbing side, and tell you straight away if a Gas Safe registered engineer is needed.
Consistency helps. A bang as a tap shuts means water hammer; a hum while water runs points at a worn valve; ticking as the heating warms is pipe expanding against a joist. After that it is a question of clips, valves or pressure.
Dishwasher and washing machine leaks start small and spread under kitchen plinths unseen. We isolate the appliance valve, then check whether the water is coming from the supply hose, the waste connection or the machine itself before anything is replaced.
You'll get a straight answer on what failed and why. Most jobs are put right the same day; anything waiting on parts is made watertight first and booked in.

Who calls us
Three types of customer account for most of our Chichester diary. The service provided is the same for each of them.
Domestic emergency attendance for burst pipes, leaks, blocked toilets and loss of water, including out of hours.
Landlord and letting agent repairs on rental property, with reporting written so it can go straight to a tenant or managing agent.
Commercial support for premises where downtime is costly, covering washrooms, commercial kitchens and drainage.
What We Fix
A repair is not considered complete when the water is back on. The work is pressure-checked or run-tested afterwards, the results are noted, and a written record of the job is provided.
Depending on the job, that can include checking joints under pressure, running drains to prove they flow, and watching for weeps. The result is documented evidence that the property has been left watertight.
Nearby cover
The road that brings us to Chichester carries on along the coast, so Bognor Regis and Littlehampton get the same day-and-night cover from the same engineers.
FAQ
Feel free to contact us for more information
Emergency repairs to a leak and like-for-like replacement of damaged pipe do not normally need consent, because you are not altering the historic fabric or character of the building. We stop the water, repair on the existing route, and keep disturbance to floorboards, plaster and joinery to a minimum. New pipe routes are different: if they mean cutting into historic walls or floors, speak to the district council's conservation team before planned work starts. We can document what we found to support that conversation.
Often it is the supply, not you. Villages around Chichester can sit at the end of long mains, and a burst or maintenance work on the main can drop pressure for a whole lane; the main up to your boundary is your water supplier's responsibility. The giveaway is whether neighbours are affected too. If your house alone has lost pressure, that points at the supply pipe from the boundary or the pipework inside, and that is where we come in. Checking pressure at the stopcock tells us which side of the boundary the problem sits.
That depends on where the leak is. Converted buildings like that often share a rising main and a soil stack, with each flat taking its own branch. A leak from your own bathroom or kitchen pipework is your responsibility, or your landlord's. A leak on the shared main or stack normally sits with the freeholder or managing agent. Turn off your stopcock if you can, and on the first visit we identify which it is and stop the water either way.
Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.
