Emergency Call-Outs
A few short questions on the phone do a lot of work. We need to know what's affected: the whole property, one room, one pipe, or just a single tap or appliance. Where is the water coming from, and how fast? Have you found the stopcock, and does it turn? And is water anywhere near electrics, or coming through a ceiling? Answer those and a plumber already has a working picture of what's going on, not just what it looks like from the landing at midnight.
You're not asked to identify the problem yourself. You don't even need to know the difference between a gate valve and a stopcock to get a straight answer, because the person taking your call is a qualified plumber working from the same checklist every time: water you can't stop, water near electrics, a bulging ceiling, a drain backing up. None of those present? It's usually safe to wait. Any of them do, and we'll say so and get moving straight away.
If it turns out you can wait, that's the end of it. No callout, no charge for the call, no pressure to book one anyway. We'll talk you through how to isolate the water in the meantime and get you into the next available slot, priced exactly the same as any other visit.
Sound Familiar?
None of these need you to self-diagnose first. That's what the phone call is for.
Turn the water off at the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, then open the cold taps to drain the system. If hot water is leaking, switch off the boiler or immersion heater too.
Catch drips with buckets and towels and move valuables out of the way. If water is near electrics, keep away from sockets and switches, and only switch off at the fuse box if you can reach it safely and dry.
Ceiling bulging with water? Don't stand under it, and keep everyone out of that room. If you smell gas, leave the property and ring the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999.

FAQ
Feel free to contact us for more information
The phone call costs nothing, and that doesn't change depending on what we find out together. If it turns out you can wait, you'll get either free advice on what to do until then or a booked appointment priced the same as any other visit. No wasted callout charge, ever.
Four things help most: roughly what's affected (the whole property, one room, or a single tap or appliance), when it started, whether you can turn the water off at the stopcock, and whether water is near electrics or coming through a ceiling. Nothing more technical than that. You're describing what you see, not diagnosing it.
Call anyway. A leak that stops by itself can still be seeping inside a wall or under the floor, which is exactly the kind of problem worth describing to someone properly rather than guessing at from the landing. We'll be straight with you about whether it's safe to leave until daylight.
Then we'll tell you straight. Turning up doesn't commit you to an emergency repair: if the problem's minor, the plumber explains exactly what's going on and offers a scheduled fix at the normal rate instead, no pressure either way.
